Being a Part of Something Bigger

William and Beula Sprague moved to Arlington, Virginia in 1964 and joined the First Baptist Church in Alexandria. After they retired in 1995, they started looking for a comfortable living situation in which to grow old safely. They learned of Virginia Baptist Homes through their church.

While visiting Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community (CBRC), they immediately loved the mountainous area, and fell in love with the comfortable, loving personality of the Culpeper community. They moved into a cottage on June 30, 1999 and have been happy residents ever since. "The maintenance people respond quickly to our requests and keep our cottage in good repair," the Spragues share enthusiastically. Their new church (Culpeper Baptist Church) is close by and the hospital is only seven minutes away if they have an emergency.

The faith-based community at CBRC is important to the Spragues and their family—in fact it is one of the biggest reasons that they chose it over others in the region. They have a son in Silver Springs, Maryland and one in Stafford, Virginia, as well as three grandsons in Virginia and one in Illinois—all of whom they see regularly.

The Spragues created a Charitable Gift Annuity with VBH in 2000 with some appreciated investment funds. When asked why they made that decision, they indicated that the life income from the annuity helps them pay their monthly expenses while, at the same time, provides a gift to the Benevolence Fund at the Culpeper Community.

Being a part of something bigger than themselves means that they can live their faith through helping others as they relax and enjoy their active life together.
